[Andantino e staccato] - Allegro - Andantino

Nove Overture a quattro, due violini, viola e basso da Francesco Barsanti di Lucca. Opera Quarta. (?)Edinburgh, c. 1745. Barsanti spent much of his professional life in London, and in Edinburgh, where he was particularly esteemed. Several of his overtures quote popular tunes of the day. The Allegro of this Overture has as its subject a tune called "Richmond Ball, or, Mr Lane's Maggott" which appeared first in the ninth (1695) edition of Playford's Dancing Master.
