Blow wrote fourteen services and over one hundred anthems, of which all but a few remained unpublished at his death. This anthem was published by Boyce in his Cathedral Music.
Lyrics: Psalm 69, v.1,3,7,10,13,14

Save me, O God: for the waters are come in, ev'n unto my soul.
I am weary of crying; my throat is dry: my sight faileth me for waiting so long upon my God.
And why? for thy sake have I suff'red reproof: shame hath cov'red my face.
I wept, and chast'ned my soul with fasting: and that was turned to my reproof.
But, Lord, I make my prayer unto thee: in an acceptable time.
Hear me, O God, in the multitude of thy mercy: ev'n in the truth of thy salvation.
