Lyrics: Anon

Circle the bowl with freshest roses,
And strew the board with meats divine,
Cull for my Chloe sweetest posies;
Chloe with me this day will dine.
Happy alone is he whom pleasure
teaches to laugh the hours away.
Tasteless the miser's hoarded treasure,
If no enjoyment crown the day.
While Prussia's warlike monarch blusters,
Some wealthy kingdom to obtain,
Cupid for me his forces musters,
To conquer Chloe's proud disdain.
And if both heroes prove victorious
Pleased I shall Fredric's laurel see,
Nor think my own campaign less glorious:
Empire for him and love for me.
