A setting of the drinking song in Peacock's novel Melincourt, composed c.1819.

Bryan was a Bristol organist (St Mary Redcliffe). He met an untimely death at the Bristol Old Vic when, rehearsing his opera "Lundy", he fell through an open trap-door.
