Lyrics: Anon, probably the composer

A long farewell, since we must part,
Accept this last adieu;
Yet be assured the faithful heart
Shall still remain with you.

True as the soul of constancy
And just as e'er was friend,
Who would not fawn through fallacy
Or flatter for an end.

Though time and absence can employ
The never-wearied eye;
Still in my mind will I enjoy
A form that ne'er can die.

Thy dear idea, best belov'd,
Is there for evr plac'd;
Which ne'er shall be by time remov'd
Or objects new defac'd.
