The current set was published by Bremner in "A curious collection of Scots tunes", Edinburgh, 1759, under the less common variant name of Black Jock. As with many versions of this piece, the violin part calls for scordatura tuning. The point of tuning in this way is both to increase resonance from open (lower) strings, and to make cross-string playing and octave leaps easier on the higher strings. This edition includes violin parts in both tunings.
Under no circumstances should the current collection be confused with James Oswald's earlier "A Collection of Curious Scots Tunes" (although Oswald as a victim of passing-off holds a little poetic justice).
