The first hornpipe composed to honour Lord Howe and to commemorate the Glorious First of June was hijacked to become "Del Caro's Hornpipe", named after the dancer that popularised it.
"Naturam expelles furca, tamen usque recurret" ("Nature expelled with a pitchfork, always returns") (Horace). In this case, Bluebells of Scotland and Buttered peas (bars 27 and 66 respectively). There are also unannounced appearances by "Devil among the tailors" and several unidentified items, which makes this rondo a medley rather than a piece modelled on a single theme.
