This piece is an adaptation as a glee of a song by Thomas Arne.

Langdon was organist of Exeter Cathedral and re-drafted several of Arne's songs for more voices, as did his successor in the post, William Jackson.
Lyrics: Anon, probably the composer

To keep my gentle Jessy,
What labours would seem hard?
Each toilsome task how easy,
Her love the sweet reward.

The bee thus uncomplaining
Esteems no toil severe,
The sweet reward obtaining
Of honey all the year.
