Published in The Beauties of Music and Poetry, vol. 1, London 1784. The lyric is inspired by a couplet of Alexander Pope, quoted on the frontispiece of that volume:
"Of Orpheus now no more let poets tell,
To fair Cecilia greater pow'r is given."
Lyrics: Anon, probably the composer

Cecilia on the organ played,
And with sweet sounds so raised her fame;
Drawn by the charm to hear the maid,
From heaven a listening angel came.
No more the feats of Orpheus tell,
His powers to bright Cecilia given;
His numbers raised a shade from hell
But hers can lift a soul to heaven.
