Maria Park issued her Set of Glees, Op. 3 by subscription in 1790. There is nothing in the cleffing of this piece to indicate that she expected performance by any other than the contemporary standard (all-male) forces. In deference to her gender, a transposed edition is provided to enable performance by female choirs.
Lyrics: Thomas D'Urfey
By shady woods and purling streams,
I spend my life in pleasing dreams,
Nor would not for the world be taught
To change my false delightful thought.
For who, alas, can happy be,
That doth the truth of all things see.
By shady woods and purling streams,
I spend my life in pleasing dreams,
Nor would not for the world be taught
To change my false delightful thought.
For who, alas, can happy be,
That doth the truth of all things see.
