Lyrics: Anon

Come, tune the solemn strain
To the twang twang of the bowstring,
While, slowly o'er the plain,
We march our yeomanree
To the foot of yon greenwood tree;
Where, round the death-bed chaunting,
We twang, twang the bowstring,
Our bowman's loss lamenting:
For a good fellow sure was he;
The pride of yeomanree.

Then dolefully we all sing
To the twang twang of the bowstring,
While echoes catch the full swing:
There needs no passing bell
To toll our bowman's knell;
For him our dirges loud swell
To the twang twang of the bowstring.
And thus we close our farewell
To the winding of the horn.
