Alone, on the sea-beaten rock,
Fair Daura was heard to complain.
Mournful as rolls the midnight wave,
Her troubled heart heaved,
And tears trickled tenderly down.
She looked beneath the deep.
'Twas the grave of her hero beloved;
Loud was the wind;
The rain beat hard on the mountain.
Ere morning arose, poor Daura was faint;
Like the breeze of the ev'ning she died,
When it steals thro' the grass of the rock.
