Lyrics: Anon, probably the composer

Haste, fond mortals, haste away,
To arched groves and meadows gay;
Leave, O leave the seats of strife,
Taste the perfect joys of life.

Virtue sole triumphant reigns
O'er the wide extended plains;
Virtue there alone presides,
Wrinkled care and pain derides.

Let not monarchs boast of bliss;
None so perfect, sure, as this.
Fears attend on pomp and state;
None so wretched as the great.
