Lyrics: Anon

La peine dure, que tant j'endure,
Le voulez-vous entendre?
Tous voyez l'attente qui me tourmente,
Voyez le bien duquel n'ai rien.
Le ciel me donne volunté bonne
Nature a fait son cœur parfait,
Amour me porte et réconforte,
Mais nul ne peut tout ce qu'il veut.

Fortune adverse, qui tout renverse,
Rend leurs effets tous imparfaits.
Perseverance, et patience
Bien pour mourir me font souffrir.
Disant supporte la peine apporte.
Quand on attend qu'on prétend,
Douc' est la peine, quant elle amène;
Après tourment, contente.

Do you wish to hear
Of the keen pain that I suffer?
See all the longing that torments me;
See those boons of which I have none.
Heaven grants me good fortune;
Nature has made her heart perfect;
Love transports and consols me;
But no-one can achieve all that he desires.

Ill fortune, which upsets all,
Spoils each and every outcome.
Patience and perseverance make
Me suffer as bad as dying.
Pain shews itself, whilst proffering support.
As we wait for that which we claim,
Pain is sweet when it comes to fruition;
After hurt comes pleasure.
