Lyrics: Anon

Maître Roland, fort de loisir
S'avisa un coup après boire
D'aller pour prendre son plaisir
Soliciter Jehanne la noire.
Et voici arriver Gringoire
Le mari, criant devant tous:
"Maître Roland, que faites-vous?
Vous vous damnes en verité".
"Non faits [viz. Fai]", dit-il, "je l'absous;
C'est un œuvre de charité.

So, with time on his hands,
Monsignor Roland,
Got the notion, (having a few drinks taken),
To importune Black Joan to satisfy his pleasure.
In comes hubby Gringoire,
Yelling in the sight of all:
"Monsignor Roland, what are you doing?
Verily, you are condemning yourself to damnation".
"Not doing [viz. Faith]", says he, I'm absolving her;
It's an act of good works".
