Lyrics: Anon

Each god agreed at Clara's birth
To bless the natal hour;
Pallas gave wit, gay Momus mirth,
Cupid himself in dow'r.
Venus bedeck'd her face in smiles,
Apollo lent his lyre;
"Music", quoth he, "each care beguiles:
Guard her ye tuneful choir".

Diana next, with modest grace,
Inspires her shape and air;
But Fortune left the happy place,
Nor would endow the fair.
They next agreed to form her mind,
And gave her heav'nly truth;
Hebe, bright maid, be thou as kind,
And grant eternal youth.
