First published by Warren, who prescribed AATTB, albeit acknowledging range problems. Early performing editions alternatively prescribe ATTBB and ATTTB. The last, adopted here, is the least worst option in honouring the composer's part ranges. The Star of Brunswick is an epither beloved of George, Prince of Wales (latterly Prince Regent and George IV). He became a member and patron of the Catch Club in 1786.
Lyrics: Thomas Cowper; Thomas Gray (adapted)

Hail, happy Albion, queen of isles!
Peaceful freedom o'er thee smiles:
Thy lib'ral heart, thy judging eye,
The flow'r unheeded can descry,
And bid it round heav'ns altars shed
The fragrance of its blushing head.

Thro' the wild waves as they roar,
With watchful eye and dauntless mien,
Thy steady course of honour keep;
Nor fear the rocks, nor seek the shore,
The star of Brunswick shines serene,
And gilds the horrors of the deep.
