Included amongst Beckford's papers is this Overture, the only piece of his music to appear in print (presumably a specimen of "vanity publishing"). The title-page (incorporating Beckford's coat of arms), as with other claims he made for his music, is ultimately more enigmatic than it is illuminating; where, when and why all remain unanswered questions. The source calls for Clarinets, Trumpets and Horns in C. The current edition has been prepared with transposing instruments in Bb, Bb and F respectively.
