"Ouverture du ballet de Phaeton, composee par Monsieur de Beckfort, amateur, Pour L'Academie Royale de Musique. Gravee par Mle. Crahay". Included amongst Beckford's papers is this Overture, the only piece of his music to appear in print (presumably a specimen of "vanity publishing"). The title-page (incorporating Beckford's coat of arms), as with other claims he made for his music, is ultimately more enigmatic than it is illuminating; where, when and why all remain unanswered questions. The source calls for Clarinets, Trumpets and Horns in C. The current edition has been prepared with transposing instruments in Bb, Bb and F respectively.
