A motet for Easter from Cantiones Sacræ, 1620. Scheidt does not call for instruments for this collection, but clearly they are envisaged in this most braggadocio Venetian setting. The second bass part is unfeasibly low, and cannot be performed without instrumental reinforcement or replacement. It is possible to perform a simulacrum of the composer's intention by judicious leaping of the octaves.
Lyrics: Anon
Surrexit pastor bonus
Alleluia.
Qui animam suam posuit pro ovibus suis,
Alleluia.
Et pro grege suo mori dignatus est.
Alleluia.
That good shepherd is risen
Alleluia.
Who laid down his life for his sheep,
Alleluia.
And for his flock was meet to die.
Alleluia.
Surrexit pastor bonus
Alleluia.
Qui animam suam posuit pro ovibus suis,
Alleluia.
Et pro grege suo mori dignatus est.
Alleluia.
That good shepherd is risen
Alleluia.
Who laid down his life for his sheep,
Alleluia.
And for his flock was meet to die.
Alleluia.
