Edition prepared from "Harmonia coelestis or The Harmony of Heaven imitated" (anthology, London, pub. 1780). This version is considerably simplified from its initial appearance in Croft's Harmonia sacra, in order to prove useful in country parishes. The arranger (probably the publisher) has detached the final chorus from Croft's extended verse anthem, doubled the note values, ironed out rhythms and harmonies, and attached an Hallelujah of unidentified provenance. This piece does not therefore represent Croft's work for St Paul's, but more the style in which his work was disseminated through the provinces in later Georgian England.
Lyrics: Psalm 130, vv. 7,8
O Israel, trust in the Lord, for with the Lord there is mercy: and plenteous redemption.
And he shall redeem Israel: from all his sins.
Hallelujah. Amen.
O Israel, trust in the Lord, for with the Lord there is mercy: and plenteous redemption.
And he shall redeem Israel: from all his sins.
Hallelujah. Amen.
