"Sung by Mr Dignum at Vauxhall with the greatest applause". London, c.1800.
Lyrics: Anon
When Britain's sons to arms are led,
And waving banners bear,
They leave their friends at home to dread,
And feel no thought of fear.
To guard old England's sacred right
And curb each hostile band,
With firmness and with zeal they fight
For this, their native land.
And when the trumpet's loud alarms
Proclaim the danger near,
With more than lightning speed, to arms
The British youths appear.
Resolv'd to conquer or to die,
They meet, unawed, the foe;
Tho' Fate holds out her destiny,
Their hearts with valour glow.
When Britain's sons to arms are led,
And waving banners bear,
They leave their friends at home to dread,
And feel no thought of fear.
To guard old England's sacred right
And curb each hostile band,
With firmness and with zeal they fight
For this, their native land.
And when the trumpet's loud alarms
Proclaim the danger near,
With more than lightning speed, to arms
The British youths appear.
Resolv'd to conquer or to die,
They meet, unawed, the foe;
Tho' Fate holds out her destiny,
Their hearts with valour glow.
