La terre les eaux va buvant,
L'arbre les boit par sa racine,
La mer éparse boit le vent,
Et le soleil boit la marine.
Le soleil est bu de la lune,
Tout boit soit en haut ou en bas,
Suivant cette règle commune,
Pourquoi donc ne boirions-nous pas?

Earth soaks up the waters;
a tree imbibes them through its roots.
The vast seas absorb the winds,
and the sun drinks up the ocean.
The sun is swallowed up by the moon.
All things quaff, from high to low;
so, in deference to this universal law,
Why don't we have a wet?
