In 1742, Dodsley published his book of poems (one hesitates to call it an omnibuss) "Colin's Kisses: being Twelve New Songs design'd for Music"; the current piece is titled Borrow'd Kiss. Oswald accepted the challenge, and printed his settings of all twelve lyrics, under the same title, the following year.

One sweet kiss, for pity's sake

Kind, compassionate and sweet:
Colin, it's a sin to steal,
And for me to give's not meet:
But I'll lend a kiss or twain,
To poor Colin in distress;
Not that I'd be paid again;
Colin, I mean nothing less.
