In 1742, Dodsley published his book of poems (one hesitates to call it an omnibuss) "Colin's Kisses: being Twelve New Songs design'd for Music"; the current piece is titled The Feast. Oswald accepted the challenge, and printed his settings of all twelve lyrics, under the same title, the following year.
Lyrics: Robert Dodsley
Polly, when your lips you join,
Lovely pouting lips, to mine;
To the bee the flow'ry field
Such a banquet does not yield;
Not the dewy morning-rose
So much sweetness does enclose;
Not the gods such nectar sip,
As Colin from thy balmy lip:
Kiss me then; with rapture kiss;
We''ll surpass the gods in bliss.
Polly, when your lips you join,
Lovely pouting lips, to mine;
To the bee the flow'ry field
Such a banquet does not yield;
Not the dewy morning-rose
So much sweetness does enclose;
Not the gods such nectar sip,
As Colin from thy balmy lip:
Kiss me then; with rapture kiss;
We''ll surpass the gods in bliss.
