Catalogued as Choral - Secular (Songs and Concert Airs)

Publ. 1768. Harris was organist of St Lawrence's church, Ludlow. His songs were presumably intended for concert performance. His extensive subscription list included many composers/concert organizers from neighbouring counties, amongst them Charles Burney (Shrewsbury), Capel Bond (Wolverhampton), Joseph Corfe (Salisbury), Jeremiah Clark (Birmingham), William Felton (Worcester), William Jackson (Exeter)and William Herschel, Thomas Linley and Benjamin Milgrove (all of Bath).
Lyrics: Anon

Since, Nancy, I must bid adieu,
How can I help despairing?
Let Fate severe us still pursue,
There's nought more worth my caring.
'Twas she alone could calm my soul,
When wracking thoughts did grieve me;
Her eyes my trouble could control
And into joy deceive me.

Farewell ye brooks, no more along
Your banks shall I be walking:
No more you'll hear my pipe or song,
Or dearest Nancy's talking.
But I by death an end will give
To grief, since we must sever:
For who can after parting live,
Ought to be wretched ever.
