"The Favorite hornpipe, danced by Madame Del Caro at the King's Theatre, Haymarket, in the cantata of La Vittoria, in commemoration of Lord Howe's victory on the 1st June, 1794. With variations". Although not explicitly entitled "Del Caro's hornpipe" in this source, that is the name under which the tune achieved popularity.
Latour, although French by nationality, spent much time in London, where he was a popular arranger of tunes such as this, and a composer of technically undemanding sonatinas. He held the post of official pianist to the Prince Regent.
