Printed c.1800 as an individual item (i.e. not in a collection). Charles Wesley (brother to Samuel) is often termed Junior, to distinguish him from his father, the hymn writer.
Lyrics: Anon, probably the composer

Mildly beamed the queen of night,
Sailing through the gay serene,
Silvered by her modest light,
But faintly shone the solitary scene.
With deep'ning shadows mixed
And glitt'ring breaks between
Silent was all around
Save where the swelling breeze
Conveyed the half-expiring sound.
Of distant waterfalls and gently waving trees
