An English tune of uncertain date, but probably from the first decade of the seventeenth century. The piece appears in the Fitzwilliam virginal book where the arrangement (or possibly the tune itself) is attributed to Giles Farnaby.

The tune was also popular in the Low Countries, and the variations appended are from Van Eyck "Fluyten Lusthof" (Amsterdam, various books and editions from 1640s/1650s) and from van Noordt "Tuitnemend Kabinet" (Amsterdam, 1649).

This edition is offered in the original published key, and also transposed up a fourth, to bring it within the range of the treble recorder.
