A madrigal setting of a text from Comus.
Lyrics: John Milton
List, Lady, be not coy or cozen'd.
Beauty is Nature's coin; must not be hoarded,
But must be current, and the goodness thereof
Consists In mutual and partaken bliss.
If you let slip time, like a neglected rose
It withers on the stem with languish'd head.
It is for homely features to keep home;
Coarse complexions, cheeks of sorry grain, may serve to ply
Thy sampler and teaze the huswife's wool.
What need a vermeil tinctur'd lip of that;
Love-darting eyes and tresses like the morn?
List, Lady, be not coy or cozen'd.
Beauty is Nature's coin; must not be hoarded,
But must be current, and the goodness thereof
Consists In mutual and partaken bliss.
If you let slip time, like a neglected rose
It withers on the stem with languish'd head.
It is for homely features to keep home;
Coarse complexions, cheeks of sorry grain, may serve to ply
Thy sampler and teaze the huswife's wool.
What need a vermeil tinctur'd lip of that;
Love-darting eyes and tresses like the morn?
