Thomas Bateson was organist at Chester Cathedral, and subsequently at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin. The current item is the only piece of his sacred music to survive (although items mislaid at Chester Cathedral in the early nineteenth century may yet resurface). His reputation is as a madrigalian and rests upon two published collections.
Lyrics: Revelation ch.4, v.8,11

Holy Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.
Worthy art thou, O Lord, to receive all glory, honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy will they are and were created. So be it.
