Christmas motet in which Praetorius has stitched together settings of three popular carols: "Ein Kindelein so lobelich", "Joseph, lieber Joseph mein", and "Virgo Deum genuit". The last of these is an excerpt from the carol usually known as "Resonet in laudibus", and the second appears to be a macaronic version of the same text. This edition is offered at original pitch (high chiavette) for S.S.A.A.T.T.B.B. or transposed down a fourth for the same forces.
Lyrics: Anon

Such a lovely child
is born to us today,
of a virgin and in a seemly manner,
as succour for us lowly people.
Had the child not been born
we were entirely bereft.
This salvation is our everything.
Hail, sweetest Jesus Christ,
For your birth in human form
shelters us from perdition.
