Pearsall's setting of a Marian text: one of his forays into mock Gothick. Part of his pastiche was the visual conceit of publishing the piece in long note values. In the same spirit the present edition represents an "updated" version of an antique item, by halving those values.
Lyrics: Anon

Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii evae,
Ad te suspiramus gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eja ergo, advocata nostra,
Illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte
Et Jesum benedictum fructum ventris tui
nobis, post hoc exilium, ostende,
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail thou Queen, Mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope. Hail.
To thee we poor banished children of Eve do cry.
To thee we sigh, mourning and weeping
in this vale of tears.
So then, our advocate,
Turn thy merciful eyes upon us.
And, after our exile, shew us Jesus,
The blessed fruit of thy womb.
O merciful, O devout, O sweet Virgin Mary.
