Composers since the time of Purcell, H. had been attempting to harmonise Scots tunes, particularly the pentatonic, empathetically. Haydn's attempts were more popular than most, albeit no more successful. This traditional tune cannot be traced back before James Oswald's use.
Lyrics: Anon

O mount and go,
Mount and make you ready,
O mount and go
And be a captain's lady.

When the drums do beat
And the cannons rattle,
Thou shalt sit in state
And see thy love in battle.
O mount and go,
Mount and make you ready,
O mount and go
And be a captain's lady.

When the vanquished foe
Sues for peace and quiet,
To the shades we'll go
And in love enjoy it.
O mount and go,
Mount and make you ready,
O mount and go
And be a captain's lady.
