A motet for Christmas Day, publ. Klosterbruck, 1612.
Lyrics: Anon
Nascitur mundo verbum caro factum,
solis transcendens lucem lux perfecta.
Tenebris lucens, capere quam sui
generis nolunt.
Gloriam Deo, pacem terræ cantat
chorus cœlorum; lux oritur nova.
Custodes gregis cantus angelorum
audiunt nocte.
Pastores currunt cantus audientes
natum videre pannis involutum.
Mariæ natum vident in præsepe,
redeunt læti.
The word made flesh is born into the world,
a perfect light that surpasses the brightness of the sun.
Shining in those shadows that do not
want to occupy themselves.
The heavenly quire sings: Glory to God,
peace on earth; a new light dawns.
The guardians of their flocks hear
the angels' songs by night.
Hearing these songs, the shepherds hasten
to view the babe in swaddling clothes.
They saw the child of Mary in the crib,
and they returned home rejoicing.
