"Fille qui prend fâcheux mari",
Cette dit Alix à Colette,
"Aura toujours le coeur marri,
Et voudrait mieux dormir seulette".
"Il est vrai", dit sa soeur doucette,
"Mais contr'un fâcheux endormi
La vrai et certaine recette
Ce serait de fair' un ami".

So this is what Alix tells Colette:
"The girl that takes an irksome husband
Will always be heartbroken,
And would rather sleep by herself".
"True", agrees her close confidante,
"But the tried and tested remedy
for fitful sleep,
Is to 'make a friend'".
