Lyrics: Anon
La palme douce, avant que feuilles rendre,
En terre fait de racine une brasse.
Amour aussi, premier qu'à merci prendre,
Un serviteur temps et service passe;
The sweet palm, before producing leaves,
makes a supporting root system under ground.
Love too, when it first takes root,
spends time and care in thrall;
yet never reveals anything of itself.
This treacherous love, to conserve itself
from those looking for its signs,
gives encouragement, at least to hope.
La palme douce, avant que feuilles rendre,

Amour aussi, premier qu'à merci prendre,
Un serviteur temps et service passe;

Love too, when it first takes root,

This treacherous love, to conserve itself
from those looking for its signs,
gives encouragement, at least to hope.
