149353 : Key : O clap your hands together : sheet music
Catalogued as Choral - Sacred (Morris)

An anthem for Ascension Day, publ. Nuneaton, 1779. Key was an excise officer and amateur musician, selling his compositions primarily in Nuneaton (Warwickshire), and also through agents in London. This piece, in West Gallery style, was intended for organless parishes. Key published instrumental parts to accompany the choir, comprised of traditional West Gallery trio-sonata scoring (in this instance, two oboes and bassoon): in performance a range of instruments may be employed, drawn from violins, flutes, oboes, clarinets, 'cellos, bassoons and serpents. This edition includes separate parts for string quartet (viola is added editorially for balance in the choruses) together with a choir score with reduction of the instrumental parts for organ.
Lyrics: Psalm 47, vv. 1,2,5-7

O clap your hands together, all ye people: O sing unto God with the voice of melody.
For the Lord is high, and to be feared: he is the great King upon all the earth.
God is gone up with a merry noise: and the Lord with the sound of the trumpet.
O sing praises, sing praises unto our God: O sing praises, sing praises unto our King.
For God is King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
Hallelujah.
